Police killed in Grozny 'prevented major terrorist attack'

The suicide bombers who killed at least nine people in Grozny on Tuesday evening planned to commit a terrorist attack at a public event, but the police officers who tried to detain them prevented huge tragedy at the expense of their lives, the head of the ministry for internal affairs of Chechnya, Ruslan Alkhanov.

Nine people died and 20 were injured in the blasts. Among the nine victims there were seven policemen, one person from the Emergencies Ministry and a civilian.

The combined power of the three suicide bombing that hit Grozny were equal to three kgs of TNT, said RIA Novosti reports.
