North Ossetia will commemorate the victims of the terrorist attack on
school number 1 in Beslan of 2004 for 3 days, RIA Novosti reports.
The terrorists attacked the school at 9.15 am on September 1, 2004.
Flowers will be laid and candles lit at the school. Prayers will be
read.
Beslan will mark the 7th anniversary of the tragedy at the Tree of
Sorrow at the memorial cemetery called the City of Angels. The names
of the victims will be read out at 12.30 pm and 334 balloons, the
number of victims, will be released.
A terrorist group consisting of over 30 people attacked the school.
They forced over a thousand hostages into the sports hall. They were
kept there for three days without food and water. A vehicle carrying
four members of the Emergencies Ministry arrived on September to take
away the bodies of men killed by terrorists. An explosion the sounded,
followed by chaotic gunfire. Children and women started escaping the
hall through a hole in the wall. 334 people were killed, including 318
hostages, 186 of whom were children. 10 FSB officers, 2 members of the
Emergencies Ministry and 15 police officers died. 810 people were
injured, including hostages, FSB members, the police and servicemen.
Most members of the Special Forces died protecting children.
