Armenian boxer Vakhtang Darchinyan has given his champion’s belt to
President Serzh Sargsyan after beating South African Evans Mbamba,
News Armenia reports.
The match lasted 12 rounds. Darchinyan presented the head of the
National Olympic Committee of Armenia, Gagik Tsarukyan, with the award
for the best KO last year. The boxer said that he dedicated his
victory to the 20th anniversary of Armenia’s independence.
The “Armenia vs. World” evening held three fights: Ovannes Zhamkochyan
vs. Mikhail Gogashvili (Georgia, 60 kg), Azat Ovanissyan vs. Sergey
Kasimov (Estonia, 55.5 kg) and Gabriel Tolmadzhyan vs. Yevgeny Fedorov
(Latvia, 59 kg).
Darchinyan has won the world championships of the IBF, WBA, WBC and
IBO eight times. He became the world champion in IBF, WBA and WBC.
