Olzhas Suleimanov hospitalized from UNESCO forum in Astana

The Kazakh representative to UNESCO, writer Olzhas Suleimanov, was
hospitalized from the UNESCO forum of Central Asian states in Astana.


Suleimanov refused to give an interview after the very first break,
saying that he did not feel very well. A doctor was called during the
second part of the summit.


Olzhas Suleimanov was born in Alma-Ata on May 18, 1936. He is a poet,
writer, theorist of literature, socio-political figure of Kazakhstan
and a diplomat.


He initiated the Nevada-Semipalatinsk movement in 1989 to close the
nuclear range in Semipalatinsk and other nuclear facilities throughout
the world. Suleimanov became the Kazakh representative to UNESCO
(Paris) in 2002.
