The Supreme Court of Russia has left the sentence of the Stavropol
Territorial Court against Giorgiyevsk Ex-Mayor Victor Gubanov
unchanged. The mayor was fined 10 million rubles for bribery of 1.8
million, Yuga.ru reports.
Mayor Gubanov issued a permit for reconstruction of a trade complex
and demanded a bribe worth 1.8 million from the owner of the
enterprise. He was arrested after receiving the money in September
2010. A criminal case was passed to the court in November 2010.
The Stavropol Territorial Court sentenced 62-year old Gubanov in May
2011. The former mayor was fined 10 million rubles and banned from
administrative work. The Prosecutor General’s Office in the North
Caucasian Federal District appealed the sentence and demanded 9 years
of prison with a fine of 500,000 rubles.
The press secretary of the Stavropol court, Violetta Bondareva,
informed that the sentence was unchanged.
