Russian president marks 46th birthday

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is marking his 46th birthday, his press-secretary Natalya Timakova said, ITAR-TASS reports.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashchenko and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev have already congratulated Medvedev.

Medvedev admitted that he likes presents, but he values the attention of dear people. Komsomolskaya Pravda says he usually received music discs, paintings and books. Last year Prime Minister Vladimir Putin presented him with a book on Russian history on his 45th birthday, written by Nikolai Karamzin.

The president said that he especially likes surprises for the birthdays of his 15-year-old son Ilya. He wanted jeans and musical albums of Pink Floyd but could not purchase them and had to work as a street cleaner and builder to save up cash.

Medvedev recalled a canoe he received from his former school mates on his 35th birthday. He also received goldfish from a pet store on Arbat and a book of Byron from London. He admitted that he never liked alcoholic drinks as presents.
