A natural disaster has inflicted serious damage to Georgia’s Tsageri region. As a result of heavy rains, the Rioni River has risen. About 50 families of the village Orbeli are cut off from the outside world, Georgia online reports.
In addition, in Tsageri, the Ladjanuri has flooded another 30 homes. Local authorities and the population are struggling with the elements themselves. Rains were also expected in Tsageri on Thursday.
The environment minister, Goga Khachidze, said his ministry would begin assessing the damage inflicted by the elements in western Georgia on Thursday.
"Our geologists are studying the situation on the ground. We will start bank protection works as soon as possible. Before that we would like to recommend that local authorities evacuate in a timely fashion those families who are threatened by rise of rivers,” the minister said.
