Islamic Cultural Center opens near former World Trade Center in NYC

The Islamic Cultural Center has opened near the former World Trade Center in New York that had been destroyed on September 11, 2001, BBC reports.


A photographic exhibition entitled “Children of New York” opened with over 160 portraits of children of immigrants from various countries. An orchestra arrived for the opening.


Besides lecture rooms, the center has a gym and recreation rooms.


There was a scandal around the construction of the center a year ago. 70% of those questioned spoke out against its construction at the site. President Barack Obama approved he construction, despite numerous protests.
