Sochi residents to be moved from Olympic sites this year

The inhabitants of land designated for the building of sporting and other facilities for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games should be relocated by the end of this year, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak said on Friday at a meeting of the interdepartmental commission on the preparing and holding of the XXII Winter Games, RIA Novosti reports.

“This is an issue that should be solved during 2010,” Kozak said. He added that about 700 families are liable to be moved in connection with the building of Olympic facilities.

“At this time all the necessary decisions have been made, first of all on the pricing policy, a unified methodological base has been established. Today the main goal of the administration of Krasnodar Territory and of the state corporation [Olympstroy] is to finish these processes quickly” he said.

According to the deputy prime minister, it is necessary to move quickly so that “this does not become an obstacle for the further building of Olympic facilities, and so that the rights and legitimate interests of the owners of the property that falls into the area of the construction of Olympic facilities will not be breached.”
