Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has made a speech marking the 20th anniversary of independence.
He noted that 27 October 1991 was the day when the Turkmen dream it had been trying to realize came true. Turkmenistan became a single state.
Independence is a dream that Turkmen ancestors had carried for ages. Turkmenistan achieved a well-deserved position in the international community.
The UN General Assembly passed a resolution at the 50th session on December 12, 1995, recognizing Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality. This demonstrates Turkmen principles of humanism, friendship and peaceful intentions in the first years of independence, the president reminded his listeners.
