Russian Muslim activists are planned to be involved in the Imam Council, Interfax reports.

Organization of the new structure was initiated by Moscow imams. Imams from Russian mosques and authoritative Muslim figures will work at the new council, Interfax cites lawyer Dagir Khasavov as saying.

The structure and legal status of the council are under preparation. Formation will be announced after Kurban-Bayram celebrations on November 6.

Khasavov says that establishment of the council was initiated after the Cathedral Mosque of Moscow had been knocked down.
