As Vestnik Kavakza has previously reported, Muslim leaders from all over Russia will be brought to a Council of Imams in Russia.
The initiative to establish the organization belongs to imams of Moscow. Imams from all over Russia, as well as influential members of the Muslim community are planned to be involved in the work of the future council.
Senior researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies, Ruslan Kurbanov, has commented on this initiative in an interview to Vestnik Kavkaza. Kurbanov said that imams of Moscow is a very vague notion since in Russia after the collapse of the Soviet Union three centers of Russian Islam have been founded.
The expert also noted that, in his view, the new organization will not appear to be a sufficiently effective structure, since there have already been many such initiatives over the past decade, and none of them succeded.
Is there any place to the Council of Imams in Russia?
