The Russian president's ombudsman for child welfare, Pavel Astakhov,
has held a meeting with the ombudsman for human rights in Chechnya,
Nurdzhi Nuhazhiev, prosecutor of the Chechen republic, Mikhail
Savchin, and other top officials and representatives of public
organizations, reports Yuga.ru
According to Astakhov, the visit was a fact-finding visit to be
followed by recommendations regarding further activities in sphere of
the protection of children's rights.
He pointed out the problem of professional training among those who
work with children. He said his department is ready to provide the
republic with methodological and educational assistance.
He also raised the issue of the high level of mental illness among
children in the republic caused by postwar stress. The level of mental
disability among children in the republic is in 2.3 times higher than
in Russia in average.
