An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 has struck eastern Turkey. Underground quakes were registered 32 km away from Van with their center at a depth of 9 km, the US Geological Survey reports.
The Van Province had an earthquake on October 23, 2011 with a magnitude of 7.2 with quakes 30 km away from the Van City. They continued with a magnitude of 5.1 and 6.1. About 600 people died and over 4,000 were injured. 2,262 buildings were destroyed.
Turkey has high seismological activity. The biggest earthquake happened in the Marmara Sea area in 1999. The magnitude was 7.4. About 18,000 people died.
