Ramzan Kadyrov supports giving Grozny status of City of Military Glory

Chechen Leader Ramzan Kadyrov has approved the proposals for giving Grozny the status of City of Military Glory, Grozny-Inform reports.

The initiative came from the North Caucasian Parliamentary Association, which filed a request to Russian President Dmitri Medvedev at a conference in Grozny. The document’s text was signed by all regions of the North Caucasian Federal District. Kadyrov says Grozny deserves such a status.

Stalin’s repressions and the deportation of the Chechen peoples were a reason for valour in the Great Patriotic War, the labour valour behind enemy lines was understated. Over 40,000 locals from Chechnya and Ingushetia went to war. After the collapse of the USSR the country learned that 300 defenders of the Brest Fortress were from Chechnya. Chechen serviceman Movladi Visaitov was the first with his regiment to meet the English-American troops at the Elbe in April 1945 and became a Hero of the Soviet Union. How can the efforts of the Grozny oil workers be appreciated, who extracted oil for the military. Grozny deserves to be a City of Military Honour, Kadyrov explains.
