Chechen poet Ruslan Akhtakhanov killed in Moscow

A noted Chechen poet, Ruslan Akhtakhanov, has been found shot dead in the yard of his house at 2 Begoyev Street in Moscow this morning, RIA Novosti reports.


A spokesman for the Investigative Committee, Vladimir Markin, says that injuries to the victim and a final shot in the head means that the murder was most likely paid for. The investigators are studying the personality and friends of the victim and video records in the area.


The police say that the man was killed at about 23:50 on Wednesday from an Izh pistol on his way home. Two shots and three cartridges were found.


The assailant left the area in a Ford Focus. The assailant's car was found burnt out in the Southern District of Moscow, together with an Izh and ammunition. A criminal case was initiated into murder and illegal arms trafficking. The assailant may be jailed for a maximum of 15 years.
