The head of the Caucasian Muslims, Sheikh ul-Islam Haji Pashazade, took part in celebrations to mark the 65th anniversary of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. The anniversary event was attended by prominent representatives of the state, public figures and representatives of various faiths, as well as diplomatic missions accredited in Russia, 1news.az reports.
At the solemn ceremony held at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Russia Peter Bulbuloglu read a telegram from the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, in which the head of the Azerbaijani state praised the Patriarch's personal contribution to interfaith dialogue, harmony and strengthening of traditional friendship and good neighborly relations.
Pashazade presented the head of the Russian Orthodox Church with the Order of Sheikh ul-Islam. The order has been awarded "for his great personal contribution to the development of interreligious and interethnic dialogue, strengthening of cultural ties between the CIS and the world, outstanding services in the process of strengthening the friendly relations between the ROC and the Office of Caucasian Muslims as well as the people of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Azerbaijan."
