Azerbaijani birth rate doubled in 20 years

Khady Rajabli, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Social Policy, said on Wednesday that the birth rate in Azerbaijan has doubled in the last two decades,1news.az reports.


A spokesman for the Ministry of Industry and Energy wants to raise payments for young mothers worth half of their wage to care for their children until they reach 3 years of age. The issue has been studied for 2 years.
155,000 children were born in Azerbaijan in 2010, about 196,000 are expected to be born in 2011, Rajabli says.


According to forecasts for 2012, about 52,000-54,000 people are expected to die. This means that the population surplus would reach 140,000. Officials are discussing the need to increase the birth rate with the current population of 9.27 million.
