Alexander Khloponin announces fewer militant attacks this year

Over 300 law enforcers were attacked and about 140 killed in 2011, compared with 460 in 2010, the Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy to the North Caucasian Federal District, Alexander Khloponin, said today, RIA Novosti reports.


Militants killed 68 and wounded 128 civilians.


Law enforcers killed 301 militants and arrested 364 militants and their supporters. Among the killed militants was an emissary of Al-Qaeda, leader of the Kavkaz imarat, a head of the united vilayat of Dagestan and the united vilayat of Kabardino-Balkaria, Khloponin added.
