Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has opened a new prison in
Rustavi, saying that "unfortunately criminals have to be detained to
keep children and adults safe", Georgia Online reports.
The Rustavi prison meets all international standards and its
construction was completed about a year ago. The prison is designed
for 2.000 people.
Saakashvili also noted that when he visited the previous prison at the
same site in 2002, "mafia bosses commanded their sidekicks from jail".
He added that the modernization of the facility would put an end to
such lawlessness.
