The Armenian Parliament has commemorated victims of the Spitak Earthquake with a minute of silence. It is the 23rd anniversary of the tragedy, News Armenia reports.
Armenian Speaker Samvel Nikoyan postponed talks on several bills, including the budget project for 2012, until Thursday.
The earthquake happened in Armenia on December 7, 1988. Spitak and Leninakan (Gyumri) and over a hundred villages were destroyed. Some other cities were damaged.
The earthquake center was in Spitak (in northern Armenia). It had a power of 10 points on a 12-point scale. Official information says 25,000 people died and 140,000 were made disabled. A million people lost their homes.
