Police in Kabardino-Balkaria killed 29 militants and 49 of their supporters in 2011, head of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee, Valery Ustov, said in Nalchik on Friday, RIA Novosti reports.
Ustov clarified that a total of 78 militants had been killed in 2011, exceeding the figures of 2010 by 16.
The number of cases of infringement of police officers’ lives dropped from 108 to 80. A total of 30 police officers died and 35 were injured by militants. The police said that 22 civilians were killed by militants in 2011.
The Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria sentenced 7 militants last year. 5 militants are suspected in arsons of stores and attacks on police officers. There are also 3 cases against 18 active militants suspected in formation and involvement in illegal armed formations and financing terrorism, Ustov says.
