Alexander Khloponin, Russian Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy to the North Caucasus Federal District (NCFD), noted that the law enforcers manage to prevent merger of criminal elements and government, RIA Novosti reports.
The official demanded control over financing of organized crime. The NCFD is the leader of money laundering, he says.
351 militants, including 37 gang leaders, had been killed in the NCFD in 2011, Police Chief of the district, Alexander Chenchik, said. He reminded about 390 militants and 46 gang leaders killed in 2010. 469 bandits, their supporters and 10 gang leaders were arrested. The law enforcers destroyed 104 bases and 370 caches of militants.
The number of attacks on population dropped twofold, by 146. 110 out of 258 people died in the attacks.
