Chechen writer Polina Zherebtsova has asked for political asylum in Finland, the Kommersant newspaper reports. Polina Zherbtsova is a Russian-born Chechen resident. Recently she has published excerpts from her diary, which she kept during the First and Second Chechen Wars.
Polina Zherebtsova told Kommersant that she fears for her life and for the life of her husband. She said that multiple assassination assaults have been plotted against her family.
Parts of the diary of Polina Zherebtsova were published in Moscow in 2009. The book talks about the hardships of the peaceful population of Chechnya during the wars.
