Ingush Diaspora demands Georgian parliament acknowledge 1944 deportation as "genocide"

A group of Ingush public figures, members of the Ingush Diaspora abroad,
has requested the parliament of Georgia to acknowledge the deportation of the
Ingush people in 1944 as "genocide", Ekho Kavkaza reports.

The group demands that Georgian MPs initiate a process at the European
Parliament.

The Ingush group claims that the Ingush people have always been unwelcome in
post-Stalinist Russia. They recalled ethnic tensions in North Ossetia
after the return of Ingush from deportation, events in 1992 and the two Chechen
wars.
