10.2%, or 880,774 hectares, of Azerbaijani territory is under special state protection. The territories include 8 national parks, 11 state parks and 24 natural reserves, Trend reports.
According to the order of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev of December 26, 2008, designing of the modern Zoological Park was concluded last year.
The Caucasus Initiative program, supported by German finances, involved preparations of documents to form the national park of Samur-Yalam. The Committee for Land and Cartography prepared related maps. Foreign experts assisted in forming the first biosphere reserve at the Zagatalsk-Balakensk Region.
