Ingush militant leader may be sentenced for life

Ali Taziyev, an Ingush militant leader nicknamed Magas, may be sentenced for life, Kommersant reports.

Vestnik Kavkaza reported earlier that Taziyev, a leader of the self-proclaimed “Imamat of the Caucasus” was detained in June 2010. He was in detention at Lefortovo and cooperated with investigators. Taziyev’s militants killed 98 and injured over 100 people. Magas organized many operations in 2004. He was suspected in attempting to assassinate Ingush Leader Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, kidnapping relatives of former Ingush President Zyazikov. The militant head organized blasts at a police station in Nazran, killing many police officers.

Taziyev is suspected of 10 crimes, including terrorism, organized armed formations, rebel, illegal arms trafficking, attack on police. The police are studying links of Taziyev’s and Doku Umarov’s cases.

Materials will be filed for the General Prosecutor’s Office in early March. The militant leader helped solve some of the biggest crimes committed by underground resistance.
