Additional 500 snow-throwers mobilized in Georgia

The Georgian Ministry for Regional Development and Infrastructure has mobilized additional 500 snow-throwers to clean the roads, Minister Ramaz Nikolaishvili said, RBC reports.

Prime Minister Nikoloz Gilauri informed that the country will experience heavy snow for 2-3 days. The central road leading to the border of Russia at Lars and southern roads in the Samtskhe-Javakheti Region still have traffic problems.

All power lines broken by heavy snow have been fixed, but 3,000 consumers are still suffering from power cuts.

The temperature in the lowlands in Georgia dropped to -12 C, mountain areas -25 C. The Tbilisi Sea, Cherepashiye and Lisiye Lakes are frozen over. The River Kura froze in some parts. 5 centers were opened in Tbilisi to provide food and shelter for the homeless. Two people have frozen to death, over 250 have been hospitalized due to the freezing temperatures.
