The level of drug trafficking in Armenia in 2011 has not changed

In 2011 Armenia registered 1525 cases of drug trafficking as compared with 1524 in 2010, the Deputy Prosecutor General of Armenia, Aram Tamazyan, told an enlarged meeting of the board of the prosecutor's office on Friday. 

According to him, in 2011 about 128 kilograms of various drugs were seized (in 2010 - about 126.5 kg), including 20 kg of marijuana, 11 kilograms of hashish, 90 kg of heroin, 4 kg of amphetamine, 1.2 kg of methamphetamine, 1.1 kg of opium, and more.

"Criminal charges for drug trafficking were brought against 711 people, including 15 women, seven juveniles and 24 foreigners. In all 223 people were charged with committing drug use," Tamazian reported, according to the agency "News-Armenia"

The representative of the Prosecutor General's Office reported that 60% of those convicted are aged between 30 and 49 years.
