The police of Dagestan have initiated a criminal case over a murder attempt against a prosecutor in Makhachkala, RIA Novosti reports.
An unidentified assailant opened handgun fire at a prosecutor in the yard of a residential building on Gagarin Street in Makhachkala at 8:20 pm on Thursday. The prosecutor was hospitalized with a shot in the chest.
The police say that the head of the department the prosecutor worked at, Natalya Mamedkerimova, was also attacked in July 2011. The assailant may get up to 20 years imprisonment for attempting to murder a prosecutor and the illegal trafficking of weapons.
