Moldavia to sentence Bagirov in his absence

The process of Russian blogger Eduard Bagirov, who escaped home arrest in Moldavia, at Byukan was set for March 21. The blogger is accused of provoking mass disorder in April 2009, RIA Novosti reports.

Bagirov was detained in Kishinev on June 16, 2011, and was later arrested. He was accused of being part of a criminal group provoking mass disorders in April 2009, when buildings of the Presidential Administration and parliament were attacked. Bagirov was put under home arrest on October 13. He may get 4-8 years of prison.

The blogger escaped home arrest on October 18, 2011, appearing in Moscow the next day. He was put on the international wanted list on March 19. Russia said that it cannot extradite Bagirov, according to the law.

The process will be held in absence of Bagirov.
