Many states are marking Nowruz today, the New Year of Iranian and Turkic peoples. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon made a speech on Nowruz, stating that it has been uniting regions and nations with a total population of 300 million for three millennia, Trend reports.
The secretary general emphasized that it is the day of family and friends, feasts, dances and songs. It allows nations to improve their links, which is why Nowruz is registered on the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The General Assembly recognized it as the International Day of Nowruz.
About 2000 guests will mark Nowruz at the UN headquarters in New York on March 20.
Vestnik Kavkaza said that Moscow held special celebrations of Nowruz. Celebrations were held at the state central concert hall “Russia” (Luzhniki Culture Center). Foreign embassies and national public organizations of Moscow, including the All-Russian Azerbaijani Congress, supported by the Department for Interregional Cooperation, National Policy and Communication with Religious Organizations of Moscow.
Russian, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Azerbaijani, Uzbek, Turkmen and Tajik arts masters to perform. Performances of almost all national diasporas in Moscow prepared performances.
Azerbaijani Ambassador to Russia Polad Bul-Bul Ogly thanked Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, Moscow departments and Yuri Artyukh personally on behalf of all ambassadors at the concert hall for gathering them and giving an opportunity to congratulate each other.
