The Azerbaijani Cultural Center of the Israel-Azerbaijan International Association organized celebrations of Nowruz in Netanya on Tuesday, 1NEWS reports.
Director of the association Yegyan Salman noted that it is one of the most important holiday for Azerbaijani natives. She said that it symbolizes earth, water, fire and wind, the four elements making up the basis of everyday life and uniting peoples.
A contest on knowledge of Nowruz was organized. Winners got books and disks presented by the Heydar Aliyev Fund. A dance, karaoke contests were held. Arye Gut, press secretary of the Israel-Azerbaijan International Association, praised Yegyan Salman for efforts in organizing the celebrations.
He says that Nowruz is a bright reflection of Azerbaijani national spirit, pressurized during the Soviet rule. Azerbaijani natives sung national songs and performed national dances.
