New synagogue in Baku gets extra security

Azerbaijan is taking additional security measures to protect the Jewish community, the Agency of Jewish News reports.


Milikh Yevdayev, CEO of the religious community of highland Jews in Baku, said that three police officers patrol the synagogue until 5 pm. Cameras were set to keep the place under control. The police only let people they know in. Strangers have documents checked and need approval of Yevdayev to enter. The police use metal detectors if needed.
