Turkey is preparing to switch to twelve-year schooling

The Turkish Grand National Assembly has adopted a bill on education reform,
which has been causing controversy in Turkish society, Daily Hurriyet reports.

According to foreign media, the new law requires an increase in the
period of schooling from 8 to 12 years. Already at the age of 10
pupils in Turkey will be able to move from state schools to vocational and
religious schools.

The opposition accuses the Turkish government of trying to increase the influence of
religion on society.
