Alla Bezhentseva, Chairwoman of the Union of Russian Women of Georgia “Yaroslavna”, held a meeting at the RIA Novosti center in Tbilisi on Thursday, News Georgia reports.
The union is supported by the Russki Mir Foundation. Yaroslavna organized the Day of Slav Literature on May 24. A concert was held at the Tbilisi Russian Drama Theater of Griboyedov with performances of Irma Sokhadze, Eleonora Kikvadze, Vakhtang Aroshidze, Georgy Chkoniya and Eka Dumbadze.
Seminars were organized, 25 teachers received certificates. An essay contest Russkoye Slovo was held. Over 80 essays were received, 70% of them written by Russians.
Bezhentseva said that Yaroslavna marked its 10th anniversary, it was registered as an NGO in 2002. It was founded to support lonely women in the 1990s.
The chairwoman noted that about 60,000 Russians used to live in Georgia. Only 20,000-25,000 live there today. She added that the latest plans are to preserve the house of the Nemchidovs in Kakhetia, where the brother of Pushkin used to live, and the nearby church.
