The Chechen parliament adopted in the first reading the law "On establishing standards for distribution of printed materials, audio and video products, as well as other products not recommended for use by children under 18 years in the Chechen republic," Yuga.ru reports, citing the news service of the Chechen parliament.
The head of the Parliamentary Committee on Regulations, interethnic and interfaith relations, as well as external relations and information policy, Husayn Yahihanov, said the law has been designed in accordance with the Federal Law "On basic guarantees of the rights of children in the Russian Federation."
The main purpose of the law is to protect children from information and propaganda which can potentially harm their health, moral and spiritual development. Under the law, nationalistic as well as class propaganda will be banned, as well as social intolerance, advertising of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products, promotion of social, racial, ethnic and religious inequality, distribution of printed materials, audio and video products promoting violence and cruelty, drug addiction, substance abuse and antisocial behavior.
