Almaty may be renamed Alma Ata, the Deputy Mayor of the city Serik Seydumanov said, News Kazakhstan reports.
The Kazakh Constitution uses the Almaty version. The law on onomastics will be considered on June 30.
Almaty will have 139 streets renamed. Central streets will keep the old names. People want to rename the Gornaya, Timiryazev and Shalyapin Streets.
