A federal investigator was injured when his car came under fire in Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, the Investigative Committee said on Saturday, RIA Novosti reports.

Two unidentified assailants fired on his car with automatic weapons, injuring the officer in the ear.

An hour later the body of a senior investigator was discovered in his car with gunshot wounds. The investigator, 31, had worked at a major crimes unit, investigating in particular attacks on law enforcement and military officials.
