80-100 under-aged convicts were injured in fires at prisons in the provinces of Sanliurfa, Adan and Gaziantep, ITAR-TASS reports.
Preliminary information says that it was an arson as a protest for water distribution in Ceyhan. The police say that it was an act of solidarity over 13 people killed by fire at the prison in Sanliufa last week. It could also be a protest against lack of air coolers, temperature in cells reached 40-50 degrees.
Relatives of convicts say that the prison in Sanliurfa was built for 350 convicts, while over 1000 were kept in cells. The parliamentary commission for human rights is expected to visit the prisons.
