Another suspect in attempt on Tatarstan mufti's life detained

The Vikhitovsky District Court of Kazan has detained a resident of Tatarstan, Rustam Kashapov, on Monday. He is suspected of attempting to take the life of the republic’s mufti, Ilsud Fayziov, and murdering the former Deputy Mufti of Tatarstan, Valiully Yakupov, press secretary of the court Yelena Koval told RIA Novosti.

“The court sentenced Kashapov to be detained for a month and 28 days – until September 19, 2012,” Koval said.

As VK reported earlier, the Vakhitovsky District Court of Kazan detained Rustem Gataullin, CEO of tour firm Idel-Hajj, suspected of murdering the former Deputy Mufti of Tatarstan, Valiully Yakupov, and attempting to murder Mufti Ildus Fayzov.

Ayrat Shakirov, Marat Kudakayev, Abdunazim Ataboyev and Murat Galeyev were arrested on Saturday.

Fayzov was injured in a car blast on July 19. Yakupov was shot dead at his house at about the same time. The police say that Fayzov took Idel-Hajj under his control, which may have been the reason behind the murder attempt.
