Suspected murderer of little girl in Pyatigorsk admits guilt

A spokesman for the Russian Investigative Committee, Vladimir Markin, said that Vladimir Ambartsumov, suspected rapist and murderer of 9-year old Anya Prokopenko in Pyatigorsk, has admitted his guilt, RIA Novosti reports.

A video recording shows that the man was accompanying a girl to a forest at 3.01 pm on June 23. He was then seen coming back alone at 4.02 pm. Ambartsumov made telephone calls in the area.

Prokopenko went missing on July 23 after leaving her house on Pushkinskaya Street. About 300 people were searching for her. Her body was found on Mt. Mashuk.

The suspect was detained on August 1. The 40-year old man had been released from prison on June 26, 2012. He had previous criminal records.
