Echmiadzin and Sergiyev Posad became sister cities.

Echmiadzin and Sergiyev Posad, that are the spiritual centres of Armenia and Russia, became twin cities. Agreement between them was signed today during the visit of Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill in Armenia, Armenia Today reports.

Mayor of Echmiadzin Karen Grigoryan and the head of Sergiev Posad Nikolay Maslov signed a collaboration treaty in Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II and  Patriarch Kirill, episcopate of Armenians Apostolic Church representatives and members of delegation of Russian Orthodox Church presence. Before the document signing the both mayors were blessed by primates of Churches.

 

K. Grigoryan hoped that twin cities agreement will help to advance collaboration between two nations - Armenian and Russian. In turn N. Maslov noted the importance of joint guidance and residents of both cities, so that Echmiadzin and Sergiyev Posad in future consolidate the status of spiritual centres. "We should make an affort, and let God bless us" the mayour of Sergiyev Posad said.

After signing ceremony K. Grigoryan presented to patriarch Kirill small coffer for fragnance, N. Maslov in turn presented to Garegin II a picture  with view of The Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius .
