Orthodox Christians are starting the Assumption Fast (Spozhinki) today, set before the Transfiguration of the Lord and Dormition. It will last until August 27, ITAR-TASS reports.
The first day of the fast reminds about miracles that happened during the fight of Christians against the godless in the 12th century. The events happened almost simultaneously in Byzantium and Russia at the forces of Duke Andrey Bogolyubsky.
Russian Patriarch Kirill visited Kolomna and urged people to pray.
