The Fourth Congress of the Council of Muftis of Russia started today in
Moscow. The participants in the congress will discuss key objectives
for the next five years and elect the leadership of the
organization, as well as make a statement on the situation in Russia
and abroad.
The congress takes place every five years.
The current head of the Council of Muftis of Russia, Ravil Gainutdin,
was chosen in 1996 at the First Congress.
According to the Deputy Chairman of the CMR, Rushan Abbyasov, the last five
years were not an easy time for Russian Muslims and Muslim
organizations, but the leadership was able to overcome the
difficulties of the CMR and is confident in the future.
