Birth rate increases in Russia

Over 1.077 million people were born in Russia in January-July 2012, exceeding the same period in 2011 by 80,000. The death rate dropped by 17,000 to 1.12 million, RIA Novosti reports.

Higher birth rate was registered in 81 regions. The best results were achieved in the Kaluga, Omsk, Nizhny Novgorod Regions, Mariy El, Krasnodar Territory and Saint-Petersburg, Deputy Minister for Labour and Social Protection of Russia Alexey Vovchenko said.

Death rate dropped in 62 regions. Ingushetia, Mariy El, Ulyanovsk, Volgograd Regions, Udmurtia, Nenetsky Autonomous District have the most dramatic fall of death rate.

The population dropped by 43,600 people in January-July 2012, about 3.2-fold less than in 2011. Population increased in 34 regions. The highest population growth was registered in Tatarstan, Udmurtia, Komi, Kabardino-Balkaria, Khakasia, Zabaykalsky and Kamchatsky Territories, Astrakhan, Tomsk and Irkutsk Regions.

The concept for demographic policy of Russia achieved an increase of birth rate by 21.2% and reduction of death rate by 11.2% in 5 years. Population reduction dropped 5.2-fold. The lifespan increased from less than 67 in 2006 to 70.3 in 2011.
