A volcano has awoken at Lokbatan. It is one of the world’s largest mud volcanoes, 1news.az reports.
The volcano is a good distance from residential areas, the Garadag District executives say. 7 fire brigades arrived.
The Lokbatan Volcano is located 18 km south-west of Baku and it erupted 22 times between 1928 and 1990. It helped find hydrocarbon reserves. Specialists believed that there were no hydrocarbons in the area in the 1990s. Drilling in 1933 revealed oil reserves and a borehole allowed the extraction of 20,000 tons of oil daily.
