Chechen president Ramzan Kadyrov guarantees security to militants who will return to a peaceful way os life, Interfax reports.
"Today we are making every effort?to eliminate illegal armed groups. There are 174 people on our list, and most of them reside outside of Russia, some 60 militants are in Chechnya. I'm stressing once again: we are strong and so we've made a decision to show good will to those who were allured into illegal armed groups," Kadyrov said at a meeting with top officials of the republic's Ministry for Internal affairs.
Kadyrov noted that?since last May hundreds of militants have been killed. Relatives of some militants called on the authorities to give another chance to those who had once made a wrong choice, thus the?Chechen government decided to make a gesture towards penitent criminals.
Kadyrov said that any militant can give himself up. The case will be investigated and they will receive new documents. Among the militants?are many "criminals" who have never opened fire or killed anyone.
The Chechen president said "Doku Umarov also surrendered and is repaying society back, and in any case a?life sentence is better than death".
