Russian Mufti urges greater role of Islam in society

Russian Muslim spiritual leader Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin says that Muslim clerics should have more chances to appeal to society in order to combat extremism and terrorist ideology, RIA Novosti reports.

"Muslim clerics haven't got enough chances to address the whole Muslim community," the Sheikh said.

This lack of communication with true spiritual leaders leads to expansion of radical Islam in society, RIA Novosti cites Gaynutdin as saying.
