A herd of eight bison imported from central Russia were released into the
wild in the Teberda reserve in Karachayevo-Cherkessia last weekend.
"The first attempt to release bison in the Teberda Reserve was on Friday, but
one female had no time to recover from the trip and therefore she could
not be released. It was decided to wait to release all animals at the
same time. The next day all eight animals were released," a
representative of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Russia said, RIA Novosti
reports.
After this operation, the number of bison in the reserve now exceeds 20,
which will hopefully improve the situation with their population.
